Title: An Integrated Optimal Control with Parameter Estimation Approach for Free Dynamic Optimization Problem
Abstract:
In this talk, an approach of integrated optimal control with parameter estimation is discussed for solving the free dynamic optimization problem. In this approach, the adjusted parameters are added to the model used. The main aim is to measure the differences between the model used and the real plant dynamics. It is highlighted that the model used and the real plant have a different structure, and only solving the model-used, without the adjusted parameters, will not obtain the true optimal solution of the original dynamic optimization problem. Here, an expanded dynamic optimization problem is introduced, where system optimization and parameter estimation are integrated interactively as the additional constraints. Accordingly, the Hamiltonian function is defined, and the corresponding necessary conditions for optimality are derived. There are three sets of these necessary conditions, which declare the modified dynamic optimization problem, the parameter estimation problem, and the Lagrange multipliers. With the specific parameter estimates and the Lagrange multipliers, the feedback control policy of the modified dynamic optimization problem is designed. During the calculation procedure, the differences between the model used and the real plant are computed iteratively, in turn, to update the optimal solution of the model used. When the convergence is achieved, the iterative solution approximates to the original dynamic optimization problem, in spite of model-reality differences. For illustration, some dynamic optimization problems are studied to show the efficiency of the approach proposed. In conclusion, the applicability of the approach proposed is presented obviously. Some future directions are also pointed out in this talk.
